New bathroom for the "F" rooms almost finished

The bathroom renovation for the F rooms is almost complete and I must say is looking pretty smick! All that is left to do is a good top to bottom clean of the rooms and the "F" rooms are ready to go again. Can I recommend a possible name change for the "F" rooms. $30 bar tab up for grabs for the best name, post alternative names in the comments.

Stop crying your eyes out, England

There was a buzz in the air at Aquarius on Sunday night as over one hundred English and German fans crammed into the AQ bar. Emotions were high as a disallowed goal saw england 1 goal behind at half time.....lets just say it all went down hill from there for our pommie friends. Ah well always next time, at least us aussies don't feel as bad getting slammed by Germany in our first game 4 - 0.

Canada Day at AQ bar....

Yay! Canada Day is just a couple of days away, and altho I'm not Canadian myself, I do have fond memories of being there a few years back and I think that's reason enough to celebrate this fine country. And celebrate we will...with poutine, chicken wings, canadian club, free beer for authentic Canadians (bring ID) and various games involving maple syrup, pancakes and anything else we deem appropiate... Should be an interesting night filled with much drinking, hilarity, dancing to The Tragically Hip and hopefully not so much Nickleback.......See you there!

Karaoke night! Woo!

Today is a good day! We are welcoming the return of our very valued member of the Aquarius team, Yogi. She has been in Bali soaking up the sun and the surf, a holiday away from the holiday that is our lives here in Byron Bay!

To celebrate this magical occasion we are going to be doing some drinking in the AQ Bar. Tuesday night is of course karaoke night, so needless to say all the hostel guests will be treated to the most beautiful singing they will ever hear. Our tones will echo through the hallways and everyone will say “is that Witney Houston singing live downstairs?”. No my lovely friends, it is just the AQ staff.

We are going to be the Woo Girls tonight. See you all there :-)

Australia gets flogging by Germany

A lot of long faces in the bar last night as Germany flogged the ozzies by 3 goals. On the flip side the Germans of the hostel celebrated onto 7am. Don't forget we are the only place to watch all the world cup games live and have a beer in Byron Bay!
Another reason to choose Aquarius as your hostel in Byron Bay. Looking forward tonight with the likes of Denmark and Holland playing at 9pm.

Migaloo the white whale

The whale migration up the east coast of Australia has started.
The best way to catcha close up view of these majestic mamals of the ocean is with a guided kayak trip with Cape Byron Kayaks. If your lucky you might catch Migaloo the white humpback whale who comes past Byron every winter!!!!

Countdown to Canada Day

Yes folks, it is almost that time of year again. A time for celebration. A time for CC & drys. A time for Barenaked Ladies and poutine and maple syrup. A time for all things Canadian!

Canada Day is only 19 short days away!

And as one of the only Canadian's on staff here at Aquarius Byron Bay Backpackers I have taken it upon myself to ensure that our celebration is legen-wait for it- dary!

I've been putting together all of the classics...The Guess Who, The Tragically Hip, Avril Lavigne, Celine Dion, and of course Nickelback. Riiiight.

Anywho, keep us in mind for your Canada Day Celebrations because it is going to be off the hook!

Robbie's Piping Hot Italiano Style Lasagne

Tonight @ Aquarius this magnificent meal is on the menu.The recipe has been handed down thru Rob's family for thousands of generations, he painstakingly recreates the dish with enormous gusto & by his side giving the lasagne equal amounts of love & admiration is "The Brad"(he'a a perfect 10). Once amazingly prepared by these grand individuals- the dish is then ever so "gently" transferred to the dining room by Markus, here it is superbly served by Lene with Markus intensly overseeing the all important "plate up" of Robbie's , sweat & tears. Behind the bar Chrisco & Scmicko are running hard like rabbits on a greyhound track, they've only 1 intense hour to serve the thirsty, hungry hoardes of lucky backpackers here @ Aquarius- All eagerly wanting to indulge in the free meal. Leading the hoares (oops) i mean the hoardes is DICKY...he's no fool- knowing only too well the pain of dissapointment if you miss out on Robbie's "to die for" dish. Robbie's Piping Hot Italian Style Lasagne has once again fed the masses. It's 2 minutes past 8pm and now all that is left is fat bellied backies, dirty plates, exhausted staff & the faint smell of Robbie's heritage ing in the air. As Reefe comes in to remove the last remnants of this life changing dining experience there's a faint tapping noise heard from behind the bar...Slowly Chrisco opens the spirits cupboard revealing a slightly bruised Lozza, during the frenzy that is "Free Meal Hour" she was tossed and tumbled like an autumn leaf into the self locking LIQUOR cupboard - thankfully she had a bottle opener and scout training to help her survive the ordeal. Glancing around the room she knew exactly what had transpired here tonight at Aquarius Backpackers Byron Bay, "Uh huh" thought Lozza with a smile "Ah Robbie MCCAIN - you've done it again" ....

Dolphins

Took a walk up to the lighthouse yesterday and saw a school of dolphins off the headland, sweet. Bonus was a spectacular sunset, blood red.

Mick our bartender and dive instructor brought bingo back to the bar last night with some cracking bingo calls including pearlers like "King's cross whore 44"

Aboriginal Culture night in the bar tonight

We have a local Aboriginal dance crew comming in tonight in the bar to share a little bit about Aboriginal culture through dance and singing. It's a great night and the guys do an awesome job. Hope to see you there, after dinner 8pm.
